EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

EMP Motors redesigns and customizes any DC electric motor for higher speed, more torque, or both. When I say "Both", EMP produces an optional 2 speed motor so you can have the best of both worlds....SPEED and TORQUE!

Let us know how it goes... I dont think you will have any complaints with any of their products.

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

the only thing I've seen wrong with the switched system, is you can disengage the motor by accident with your foot etc.. so, I installed a microswitch on the second f/r switch, so if it is disengaged, it will turn the car off.. thus preventing any electrical arcs....

all I'm waiting on now is a MCOR conversion kit to get in stock, I didn't think the v-glide would have given it a nice smooth ride...

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

phasetim,
I'm not following...where did you mount the second f/r for your foot to hit it?
I got a bad switch, Chuck @EMP is sending me a new one. Nice guy...good company!

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

on the back of the torque/speed switch i mounted a small micro switch similar to the one on the f/r switch.... thus is someone kicks the switch by accident, there will be no danger of arcs... the torque/speed switch is a manual copper contact, a kid, or someone not paying attention could slip it out and cause an arc, potentially melting the switch, or cause a fire...

the two wires that go to the activating micro on the forward/reverse switch, i took one off ran it to my new micro on the torque/speed switch, then connected the two micros together with a new wire....

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

Thanks for the pic,...I see what you mean about feet possibly hitting the f/r. How much top speed variation to you get b/t the speed and torque setting? I got a bad switch first go around, Chuck @EMP just sent me a new one...arrived yesterday:thumbup:

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

not sure yet, I'm still finishing up the project.... I'm waiting on a MCOR conversion kit, I'm never happy with the performance of a v-glide on a high speed car, it throws people around too much.... when i get it in, I'm gonna run a few test for speed, torque etc... I've never used EMP products so I'm gonna give it a run for the money to see if I'm interested in them...

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

Phasetim,
Not trying to hijack the thread but you bring up an iteresting point. I've tried to figure out what is going on with my cart, it is very jumpy/jerky off the line. Others hav said it might be a v-glide, a bad solenoid, a microswitch box...I don't know. Any advice would be much appreciated. I have 95 CC DS 48v.:help:

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

You can try cleaning your contacts on your v-glide.

phasetim 10-04-2007 12:17 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

a v-glide using only so many copper contacts to slide between resistance rating, so you are jumping between different levels of resistance... the mcor is more like an old radio volume knob, it changes smoothly and slowly, offering a much more stable acceleration..

the conversions are like $230 (i think) been a while since i checked..

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

I finished installing EMP's motor today for my customer...

If it lasts as good as everyone is saying they are, the customer should be VERY happy. Speed is excellent, and torque is crazy.. Good motors..

BRS 10-11-2007 09:11 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

I also made some headway with my EMP,...had a bad switch! High speed 22mph, torque 19mph. Setup performs well. Good service from Chuck @EMP:thumbup:

phasetim 10-11-2007 09:16 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

i didnt gps mine but i was getting over 22. I have a different club car that I GPS'd in the past at about 24, and the EMP smoked it.

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

Wow, that's great! I'm confident I'll get more out of it with new batts. and cables. Content for now!

phasetim 10-11-2007 09:22 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

The customer had bought a heavy controller too, I'm sure that's a big difference..

I always build these cars, and never get to keep them.. Enjoy yours! LOL

BRS 10-11-2007 09:30 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

I've been considering a bigger controller on my current setup...do you think it would make a worthwhile increase in speed or torque?

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

what amp controller do you have now?

BRS 10-11-2007 09:53 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

stock 225 controller,..and beefed up EMP 3.1 hp. Everything is stock until I change it!

phasetim 10-11-2007 10:07 PM

Re: EMP 2 speed golf cart motors

oh yeah, a controller will give you a ton of difference, and it all depends on what controller you use.

I think the car I just worked on had a 700 amp. The only thing he did wrong was order stuff from BU. I hate looking at a speed controller and not being able to read any info off of it.
