Newbie battery question

Hey guys new to the golf cart world got a cart for basically nothing that I’m fixing up it’s a 36V 1997 I believe from the research I’ve done.My question is is it ok to run 12v batteries rather than 6V also any pros or cons that you guys might have on this.

Re: Newbie battery question

For the most part there is no issues running 12v batteries over 6v. The only major difference is the range you will be able to drive on a full charge. Having six 6 volt batteries will allow you to have longer run times between charges.

Re: Newbie battery question

As long as they are 12v golf cart batteries not marine deep cycle or automotive batteries, but as stated above your run time will be far less than 6 6v. A lot of the people that have 48v systems that came with 4 12v batteries change over to 6 8v batteries for that reason.

You will be cheaper in the long run and more satisfied with 6 regular golf cart batteries. Marine, or automotive batteries will not last no time.

Re: Newbie battery question

Golf cart batteries are designed to be used in series to provide max amperage and reserve power. You will always get the most of both of these using six volt batteries. How long they last will be up to you based on their care and proper usage.
