Speed Code 4 Scam?
Here is my question:
I have read all about speed code and what to expect etc. I called my local golf cart place who said they would pick it up and should be around 40 bucks. They did, but just called and said he did an hours worth of work to diag it and has it at speed code 3. But if I want it up to speed code 4, It would be be 225 for him to buy the code from Club Car. So I said forget it all and he said ok Ill deliver it back to you a few miles away) for $90 and Ill set it back to speed code 2. I really feel like Im being scammed or at minimum gouged on the price. Does a speed code 4 really cost that much? I don't need my 2013 Precedent (PH Serial) to win a race, just want it to go a little faster. Thanks! |
Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
The pick up and delivery seems to be what he is charging for. That seems high to me. He may set to speed code 3 for 40.00 but that on top of 90.00 seems high. Most places do the sp code 4 for around 100.00. Sounds like they have you over a barrel and its going to cost 90.00 to get your cart back. Around here they will change from speed code 2 to speed code 3 sometimes for nothing just to keep a customer.

Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
SP 1, 2 & 3 cost him nothing to change and they are listed inside your battery compartment, you just have to have the Curtis Programmer. Club Car will charge him $50-$80 to supply him the Private Speed Code 4 for your particular cart. As mrgolf stated, that is usually around $100 for most places to do it. I have seen it from $80 to $120.
And he should have at least left it at SP-3! |
Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
$225 is almost the price of an Alltrax XCT48300 which will give you more speed, more torque and YOU can adjust the settings to your liking. Get your cart back and tell him to F off. Then go on Yelp and leave a review how he tried to rob you.

Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
I have a 2018 Onward with 12' wheels and it only goes19.5mph. Are you saying I can a few more mph out of my cart from the dealer with a programming change? Or would it be better to buy a upgraded controller for more speed?

Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
Charge 100.00 here for code 4, then another 40 for labor which I found out after the fact.

Re: Speed Code 4 Scam?
I've seriously debated on selling codes on the web store and offering programmer rental. The rental would be free with the purchase of a code, but you'd have to put a credit card on file. In case the programmer wasn't returned you'd be buying it.
