Tires and Wheels vs. Speed
I just got myself my first golf cart a few weeks ago. It is a 2011 Gas EZ-GO TXT. Everything on it is stock. After monkeying with the throttle and governor a bit I decided to just put it back to where it started. So I'm getting a top speed of 15 mph currently. Not bad for the cruising around my small town.
What I'm wondering is, going from the stock tires and wheels, what kind of speed increase could I expect to see with each step up in tire size? And also how big can I go before I would need to lift the cart for clearance? At this point I'd be happy with even a bump up to 20 mph. Oh it also has a rear seat so I'm sure if I have people back there I would need a lift sooner than I think. |
Re: Tires and Wheels vs. Speed
It's a tricky thing changing gearing with bigger tires and expecting a higher top end, you still must have the power to drive those bigger tires. I experimented once with big 4 wheeler tires on mine and it went slower, Now I have little low profile tires and it goes a bit faster then with the stock ones.

Re: Tires and Wheels vs. Speed
It depends on what engine you have to turn them. I've got 25" tires on my club car with the Kawasaki 350, turns them just as well as it did the 18" tires. I was doing around 14-15mph or so on the stock 18" tires, it cruises happily at 20-22mph on the 25's. I dont like fiddling with the governor for more speed, revs the engine higher than I prefer.
My old TXT with the Robin's 295 would do around 21-22mph on 23" tires but the governor was pretty much maxed out on that cart. |
