Can I put 4-12 volt batteries in my Club Car instead of 6-8 volt?
 

I am needing new batteries for my '98 48volt cc and someone told me that I could use 4 12v instead of 6 8v...It would save me a considerable amount of money...any thoughts from those in the know? Thanks.

you would have terrible run time and the batteries would fail prematurely. 12v batteries don't hold up to the discharging cycles like a 8 or 6 volt will

Yes, you can, but, it would be a considerable downgrade. I would (Gulp) suggest buying a cheaper brand of 8v before i would switch to 12v batts. Also, your battery trays may need some mods to properly hold the 12s.

I was just about to order the 2 ga cables for my soon to come 48v 4 battery set and y'all start this.

So, my CC has the 4 batteries and they rest on the aluminum frame. the 8 volts would fall to the ground so I know there is some sort of adapter for this somewhere.

Where is there a thread discussing how to convert from 4 12v's to 6 8v batteries for my situation? Or is there a sponsor who has something out there?

What year and model of cart do you have?
A six 8v system is WAY better than a four 12v system...

Even better then 6- 8 volt system go to the max with 8 - 6 volt system

CTD, everything there refers to a tub. I do not have a tub. Mine rest on the frame.

He has a later model DS with 4- 12v batterys, i, too was shocked when i first saw those. Why, why, why? That was a poor way to push people into getting a prescident....As usual, cheaper cost on the assembly line. Most, not all (Ezgo, i'm looking your way), have gone back to 6-8v batts, or 8- 6v batts. We only offer Yamahas as 8- 6v, and offer the factory made Ezgo 6- 8v RXV setup. We still sell plenty of 4- 12v RXVs tho. If i could cram 8- 6v batts in a RXV, and still leave room for golf bags, you bet i would be doing it (so i put lithium in instead).
