97 TXT gas starter issue

I have a 97 txt ezgo gas car. Last December I had starting issues and determined that the brushes were worn. I replaced the brushes. All was well until last night ( 9 months later)

After a 2 mile tow home. Everything checked out. No broken wires, solenoid clicking ect... Finally tapped on the starter with a hammer and starts right up.

I haven.t inspected the 9 month old brushes yet . But the question is could their be another issue with the starter that tapping with a hammer temporarily relieves?

I would think it would be unlikely that a new set of brushes would wear out after 9 months

Any advice would be appreciated

Did you clean up the armature with sand paper when replaced the brushes?

They most likely just need cleaned up. But then again, Its China junk!:roll:

Yes I did clean up the armature when changing brushes. I guess Ill pull the brush covers and see if the new brushes have worn down. I did get them on ebay So who knows how durable they are?

I went out at first light this morning. Stopped and started at least 20 times with no issues. I'll look at the brushes later. If they look good I'll just carry a hammer with me while we ride around the lake

If the brushes look good, I would clean up all of the ground connections, and change the positive battery cable. Are you hearing the solenoid activate when the starter fails to turn?

You should also load test your battery.

thanks for the reply. Yes I did check all connections and grounds. Solenoid does activate.

It seems to be an intermittant problem. I was wondering since the brushes are new. Could the motor ramdomly be stopping on a dead spot on the armiture? Any thoughts

thanks
