Club Car AC conversion Kit
 

Hello All, I've been thinking about upgrading my 1999 Club Car DS off road buggy with a AC conversion kit like the one found here, does anyone have any experience with these conversion kits? How powerful are these AC motors, would it be a good motor for off road? My location in the Ozarks is both rocky and hilly.


The AC motor is 10 spline Advanced AMD 48 volt 3.2KW (4.3HP) 6000 rpm Motor with a 450 Amp AC Curtis Controller and a 4 ga cable set, etc.

Welcome to BGW the BU Kit boast 4.5 hp. Stock is 3.5 hp and most aftermarket torque motors are 8-10 hp. So not too much power for a lot of $. Maybe better for street use than off road as you mentioned.
Also note it says for 1982 and up but requires cart to have MCOR throttle so that's another conversion.

Thanks Scotty, I was concerned about the hp, 4.3 didn't sound like very much, but I didn't know how AC motors were rated compared to DC motors. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 8-10 hp ratings on a DC motor rated at their highest RPM?

If this AC motor is only 4.3 hp at 6000 rpm's it would definitely not be large enough. I can't get up much speed in the woods here where I live, it's too rocky and hilly. I looked through your website and you have some good combo's.

Do you have any connections for a Open Fan Cooled motor with internal fan and thermostat, that might be my next option to keep the motor cool. I could build a guard around it out of aluminum with a filter.

Open motors are not recommended for field use, due to the chance of water or mud intrusion.

If you are asking about the cart in your avatar I would use the Alltrax SR48500 control, 400 solenoid, 2g cable set, and Admiral A1 high torque motor. (HP rating are definitely not at highest rpm. Higher rpms actually reduce HP)

Actually I had my eye on your A4, ha. Will these controller systems plug and play with the regen 2 wiring harness or would I need to upgrade the wiring harness as well?

If you are serious about this cart convert up to IQ or down to series.
Ditch the failed Regen II system.
I have a custom IQ conversion wire harness for this cart I would like to sell

I finally completed the cart upgrade and went with the HPEVS AC 20 Electric-Motor Drive System. I'm very satisfied with their service and the AC system is perfect for my needs. The cart now tops out at 31 mph with a cruise speed of 28 and has the capability of creeping through the forest all day long without overheating. All kinds of torque and perfect for a hunting buggy.

I have been eying this motor for a while AC 9-37.52. Did you have any problems with the install? any pictures of the install or during the install?
