Nissan Leaf batteries set up.
I am getting my nissan leaf batteries in this week.
What should I look for initially? How do I bottom Ballance prior to first full charge? Is this necessary? And wiring diagrams for a Bms? My charger is set at HV of 58v for the pack. My pack is 7 leaf cells for the 58.8 v. Any advise is appreciated . Parts links, low voltage shutoff thoughts etc. Started as a2001 CLUB CAR. My cart has 700 amp controller, HD switch and solenoid, 2g wires, custom built vented motor from D&D. |
Re: Nissan Leaf batteries set up.
First thing is to look for any external signs of damage from shipping when they arrive.
Next, check the voltage of all cells to see how close they are together. If only a couple of tenths off, you could parallel all cells together (including center tabs) to balance the cells a little closer, but not it's necessary if they are already that close to begin with. What BMS will you be using? |
Re: Nissan Leaf batteries set up.
I prefer to top balance. I have had my Leaf pack for 3 years now and I only top balance it when it's at about 4V per cell.

Looking at the chargery 24s. As I have read the 16s doesn't ballance them. |

Top balance means balancing when the pack is nearly fully charged. The BMS will do this but for a new set of cells you should check them individually and either charge them individualy or in parallel up to about 4V per cell and let the BMS balance them if they are close.

There is a newer Chargery 16 that does indeed balance the cells. There is a person on here currently doing a build with it. If I can find the thread they have going, I will link in another post on here. Here is the thread: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lithi...-overhaul.html This person contacted the owner directly through email. If you like, I can PM you the email address. I had been in contact with him before. |

Re: Nissan Leaf batteries set up.
Funny, I just left my new (used) Club Car DS (96) and I'm thinking the batteries are bad. I was looking over the Leaf batteries. Now, with 7, you would be around the 53v at 64Ah. The Trojan's I have in there are are around 140Ah. This being said, my experience comparing a small 14Ah Headway pack vs a 50Ah AGM is interesting. The Headway pack has the same range under high amp as the AGM.
So this being said, is this way you are using a much smaller lithium pack?? Thanks!! Mark |
