2000 Club Car Series cart is slow w/ new batteries

I have inherited a project with a 48v series club car DS. When I received the cart, it was operational but slow. I load tested batteries and found out they were extremely weak. So, I installed brand new batteries (6 8v’s) and is still just as slow. By slow I mean 5-10 mph. Since this is a series cart, there is no speed sensor on end of electric motor. Tires are 22” and haven’t had this issue before with series carts. Since there is no speed sensor and new batteries test great, am I only left with Motor/controller/solenoid? I’d hate to dump 500-700 in a upgraded controller but will do if needed.

Take a look to see if your getting full throttle Power on the V glide.

I just replaced potentiometer and issue is still present. I suppose I’m left with motor? Any suggestions?

Series carts are usually kinda slow, but that seems excessively slow, especially for 22" tires.

What voltage is coming out of the controller on pin 2? Or maybe its Pin 3. One of those should output 5v to the throttle. The other is throttle signal back.

What throttle does the cart have? You said a pot box, is it an MCOR? V-glide pot?

Another thing that makes a difference is if the microswitch for the half speed reverse is wired incorrectly you will only get half speed either direction.

Fairtax4me- it is v glide box. Replacing with new didn’t Fix the problem. I have replaced the controller with a new 400amp… replacing the 225amp controller that was originally in the cart. Replacing the controller did not improve any performance whatsoever. I would have thought there would be a noticeable difference. So the series motor and FNR micro are my last options? I will say that the cart continues to increase speed going down hills(didn’t know if this makes a difference with troubleshooting).

Update: sent my series motor to PlumQuick and they did the bandit build on it. I took the original motor apart before sending and the brushes were definitely worn and brittle. I though for sure this would fix my “slow issue”, but….. ZERO improvement. Ugh. That’s what I get for throwing parts at the cart without doing my due diligence on where the voltage is being dropped. I will trouble shoot the cart tomorrow to determine this. As of right now, I have replaced all critical electrical components- besides the solenoid. The solenoid look aged but clicks as it should. Could an old/worn solenoid prevent full voltage to the controller(I will figure this out when running my diagnostics). Hindsight 20/20, should have just done the lithium kit swap. I also replaced the rear diff fluid and everything seems to move with very little resistance.

I will report back with the solution.

Maybe a silly question and overlooked, but have you checked all your cables and connections? All it takes is one bad wire between any of the batteries, going to the motor, or the FNR switch and the cart will trip over itself and can’t get out of its own way.

I had the same think on a series cart. New Trojan batteries found out that one battery had a dead cell.
