1988 Marathon Rebuild
 

Well, I picked up 2 Marathons about a month ago. One was a 1977 that was in rough shape. One was a 1988 that needed a couple of components and a paint job. Someone welded on some unistrut on the back.
I should have just parted these things out, but nooooo not me. I will make one out of two.

I decided to use the rear fenders off the 77 and put them on the 88. The 88 had the front part of a lift kit. So I need to build me some for the back.

I pulled the rear fenders off and start to clean up the frame and check out the damage. It's not too bad and at least is a place to start.

Getting everything ready for paint. I sprayed everything down with OSPHO and hopefully that will take care of the rust. I even tipped her on the side to get the undercarriage.

Tonight I hope to get the frame and undercarriage painted.

I need to get me a solenoid and some wires. The motor seems to work. So I have my work cut out for me. I figured this would be a good run around cart for the nieces, nephews, and grandkids to play with. That way they will leave my cart alone. Especially, when I get the one I really want. A 6 seater limo. But, I haven't found the right one yet. One day.

Got a question....Do the wires going from the resistor coil to the wiper block have to be this long??

When I replace the wiring, I want to try and clean this up a little.

Good job. Not sure why they are that long. No reason to change them though.

I got a few more things done this weekend. Lift for the back is done and on. I pulled the rear axle off and cleaned it up and painted it and then put the lift on. I ordered my new brake cables, brake shoes, and rear fender shields. So work on the chassis has come to a stop.

Thanks to djhartley2003 for the resistor coil and wiper board assembly. I decided that my assembly was in need of a rebuild. Dave had a setup that I can just bolt in. I still have to install this and some other things while I wait on the new parts to show up.

I'll get some pics in my next post. This is going to be an awesome cart went I'm done. I just hope there isn't too much troubleshooting to be done once all the electrics are hooked up.

The cable's might be to long because someone moved the resistor coil,the bracket must of broke off , that is not a good place for the coil because it gets very hot an that is close to the wood seat , on my cart the coil is mounted to a plate right next to the driver side rear tire u can see it by the shock, I just changed all my cables and the cables that go to the coil were 28 " when i took them off and my cart is stock :thumbup: ----- Just my 2 cent

Thanks for your 2 cents, that makes sense. I have different components I'm putting in and will look for the orginal mounting area. Thanks for the pics and I will move them close to where they belong. This helps alot, Thanks again.
