Boom's Project Cart

So, Newb here. I got a 1997 EzGo TXT for next to nothing...because it was probably worth next to nothing. No batteries, controller missing, no charger. With all that missing, why not upgrade to a 48v system, right??? The suspension/bushing look and feel fine. Brakes are OK (Had Wifey slam on brakes while pulling with another cart).

I have a pretty extensive background in troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems and am pretty mechanically inclined. Mentally...well that remains to be seen.

I plan to use this thread to document the conversion and seek the guidance of those wiser than me.

My understanding (from the flowchart) is that I have a Sepex DCS system.

Here is what I have planned so far:

(6) 8 Volt Trojan T875 batteries
(1) Alltrax XCT48300 IQ controller (Will be ordered through site sponsor)
(1) HD 200 amp solenoid (Also will be ordered through site sponsor)

I have plenty of 1/0 welding cable and lugs to make new battery cables.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks.....Boom

You should get a bigger controller than 300a. And the IQ model is for club car, not Ezgo DCS.

Make sure the lugs are specific for a buggy battery, and not a car battery. The holes are larger in car batteries, or at least that was my experience when I bought mine.

Will do. Do you know the ID of the lugs I'll need?

I found this:

http://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/dat...ata_Sheets.pdf

If i recall, automotive shops have 3/8", which is larger than 5/16", resulting in less contact area.

I'm going to need a charger. What are the recommendations?

DPI from Carts Unlimited.

Be sure and tell him what cart you have and that you're upgrading it to 48 volts, so he'll provide it with the proper plug.
