Stubborn Motor Removal
 

I saw a previous thread about getting the motor out. Some said spray49, hit it with a hammer.

Are there any other suggestions? I can turn it, but can't get it to budge off the spindle. Maybe I am not strong enough. I am trying to do this through the small access panel on the back and can barely get my hands around it.

Any help would be appreciated. Or if you can stop by.

Jack it up drop the axle and you will be able to get to it better.

I've been reading some very old posts lately, and "The Legend" had a great tip to help an old member get his motor removed. He told him to take the whole axle off the cart. Flip the drum on the motor side around, then drop it straight down on the concrete. Guessing it works like a huge slide hammer. The OP of that thread said it worked like a charm. YMMV

Either roll the back wheels up on ramps or put it on jack stands. You can get underneath and whack it with a 2x4 to see if it will loosen. You can also use a prybar between the axle and the motor and try to wiggle it up and down a bit to break it loose.
Maybe try getting prybar between the axle and the motor and pry it off that way. But be careful doing that, the ring on the motor is aluminum so watch how much pressure you use.

If all that fails, you can do the last resort and pull the axle. Take the wheels off, turn the brake drum inside out (to protect the studs) and drop the axle on the drum, might take several drops and don't be gentle, drop it from a couple of feet at least. Maybe put a towel folded up on the floor for the motor to drop onto as well.

That's all I've got...anyone else?

When nothing else worked - this worked... After I broke a differential housing, this worked... basically it seems extreme but, it works and easier than tig welding the diff housing broken by a pry bar. :oops:

I did it on the edge of a driveway where the lawn was there to catch the motor.
I was surprised how little it took

I still did not have any luck with the motor.
But, I am putting all the other parts in and hooking up all the wires. This includes the 400 amp controller, 200 amp solenoid, and 4 gauge wires.
Would I be able to drive with the stock GE motor for a day or so, or would it burn it up right away.
I could try the new motor next weekend.
