93 DS Club Car with 48 volts

Put a new solenoid in a friends cart today. He bought it a couple years ago and put in new 6 - 8 volt bats then because that is what was in it. I see CC did not start using 48 volt systems until about '95.

I used a 48 volt solenoid and that what was in it.

The controller is a Curtis PMC 1204-015 36 volt and the motor is a 36 volt.

Is he going to run into any problems down the road with this set up. We do not know how many years ago this switch was made.

It has run fine for him until the solenoid gave out.

It is not uncommon to see 36 volt carts bumped up to 48v systems for the increase speed and power from the additional voltage in a series cart. It all sounds ok except the controller. It must be a 36/48 or was some how modified or it would have burned up. You definitely did need the 48v solenoid you replaced to be 48v. (or you would have burned up the energizing coil)

The controller is a definitely a Curtis PMC 1204-015 36 volt, (24-36 volt) Did not have it all the way out of cart, (couldn't see all 6 sides). Would not know how to tell if it has been modified. The new bats will be 2 yrs old in Dec. As said, don't know how long ago it was boosted to 48 volts. Does indeed run like a scared rabbit, though!

Interesting. If it has been running for two years with a 36v controller has he just been lucky? Anybody know?

I'm just curious with the controller being 36volt, what charger is he running?

I would run it as long as it will, and he prepared to purchase a new Alltrax at any time.

I don't have cart/charger here right now. I'll try to get by and check it out. It seems to be a 48 volt charger as it is doing a fine job keeping batteries. Sat at my house 2 weeks till I could get at it and batts were still at 50.2 volts yesterday when I put it on charger before he came to pick it up.

Our retirement village is maybe 3/4 mile square with all paved and relatively flat roads so that may be the reason he is getting by. Single seat cart with everything else original.

Thanks everybody for the input. Ard

Re: 93 DS Club Car with 48 volts

1 1/2 years later!!! It finally burned out. 48 volts powering a 36 volt controller and motor.

What controller would be least costly for this. Burned out one is assuming stock Curtis 1204-015, 275 amp, 24-36 volt. Something that will utilize current wiring?

I am seeing on FSIP, a Curtis 1204M-5023, 275 amp, 36/48 volt, 0-5 K or 5K-0 ohms.

Would this do the job? He has been very satisfied with the performance to this point. We have no idea how long this arrangement has worked. My friend bought the cart with this set up in 2014 and replaced batteries 2 years ago.

He probably got by for so long because our village is relative flat roads.

You would want you an Alltrax SR (300-600) controller. Amperage is up to you and your needs. This gives you the best that is currently on the market, 2 year warranty, User Controlability with the Alltrax Tool Kit, and many more perks....

You can see them here https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/motor-controllers and call David Hicks (TahoeDawgZ71) with any questions or details for recommendations to meet your needs.

The Alltrax SR Series controller would be the way to go. 2 year warranty and it fits the factory controller footprint. Just use longer bolts and it'll bolt right up. Tons of user friendly adjustability as well.
