Budget solid state upgrade for a 88-94 marathon

I have an 88-94 EZGO Marathon (coil cart) I would like to upgrade to a solid state speed control. I have seen several conversion kits offered but I am afraid that the cost of the conversion kit comes close to the total value of the cart. Has anyone come up with a less expensive upgrade for these older carts?

No experience, but you have to decide whether five years down the road you'll still have the cart, and not sell and buy a newer one.

The "five years" is totally made up, and not meant to be a break even analysis.

And I'd think a new controller would be a selling point, if plans change.

20-30 years ago this cart was new and it was a great asset to the game of golf. It would haul 2 people and clubs 300 yds without melting down and occasionally you saw one in use at a trailer pack or for maintenance workers.
Today's carts have come a long way. Whole communities and villages literally run on golf carts. They are engineered for golf and public use as transportation. Conversion to solid state opens up a big world of use for an older cart... they can run with the big dogs using 48v and aftermarket motors.
You really have to decide what your goal is for the cart and how much you are wanting to put into the cart to do that. Remember just because you get a 2010 or 2019 cart does not mean it too doesn't need a controller upgrade.
