400 or 500 amp?
 
WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS I AM SENDING MY MOTOR TO PQ. I AM SLOWLY GETTING THE PARTS I NEED(HIDING THE EXPENSE FROM THE LADY:lol:) . WONDERING IF I SHOULD GET A 400 OR 500AMP. CONTROLLER? WOULD I GET MORE OUT OF THE 500AMP. OR WILL A 400AMP. BE ENOUGH?

Depends on what you are having done to the motor. PQ might best answer your question.

I WANT TO GET MORE SPEED OUT OF THE MOTOR. SO I FIGURE THAT A HIGHER AMP. CONTROLLER WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE TORQUE. I WILL BE RUNNING 36V. FOR NOW BUT I WILL MORE THEN LIKELY GO TO 48V IN THE FUTURE. THINKING THAT I WILL ONLY HAVE TO CHANGE THE SOLENOID AND CHARGER THEN.:thumbup:

I suggest converting to 48v first to see what that gives you. More voltage to the motor gives more speed. More amperage to the the motor gives you more torque. So 400 vs 500 really isn't going to give you more speed.

I WILL HAVE THE MOTOR BUILT FOR SPEED,I FIGURED THAT THE CONTROLLER WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE TORQUE. FLORIDA DOES NOT HAVE THE HILLS LIKE I REMEMBER IN THE NORTHEAST:lhmo:

Sorry, but I live on a hill in the center of the state. 147ft above sea level. I need toque to get up the hill to my place.

400amp will get you up to speed then voltage & motor as well as tall tires will take care of the speed.

I agree with Ross. If you do the 48v conversion now you may not even need a motor rewind. Your gain will be about 30% in both speed and torque.
IMO 400 amp and a 4ga cable upgrade is plenty to run around the streets with.

I am not ready to do the 48v conversion yet,i just put new batteries in and i really don't want to put two in the bag well.i figured i would do the solenoid and f&r switch first then the motor then the controller. Wouldn't i get better speed having my motor redone then going to 48v rather then run 48v to my 8 yr. Old motor anyway?

8 years isn't that old in terms of electric motors. I would do the 48V conversion with a 400 AMP controller first, then if you feel you really need the motor after that, send it out. Unfortunately, your only options for the 48V is either changing out the batteries to 8 volt or adding the extra 2 in the bagwell.

Will the 400 amp. Controller be enough for the 48v.?(when i do go to 48v.) how much would i gain with the 500amp. Over the 400 amp.? Sorry for all the questions but i just want to get all the info. Before i jump in and spend the money.
