EMP Motor squeal/squeak

when I try to enter my garage, where the concrete is on 2"-3" high, the cart enters with the front wheels and when I try to ease the rear of the cart up the motor "squeals". This is with the cart at a dead stop with the rear wheels against the concrete and at a deap stop (two speed swithc is in speed mode). When you ease on the throttle, the motor squeals or squeaks, but the cart doesn't move becasue the cart doesn't have enough strength to enter the garage. It has the same squeal if you start off from a dead stop in the speed mode.

Mind you it didn't do this with the previous motor nor does it do this in torque mode so I know it isn't the input bearing. It kind of seams like it may be cause by some sort of high pitched electrical sparking, but it is a real light squeal. It wouild seem to me also that this motor, even thoug it is in "speed mode" would have enough power to climb this 2-3". The previous GE tin can motor had no problem.

Anyone have this same squeal or have any idea whaat it may be?? I know it isn't a bearing. A bearing doesn't squeak unless it is moving.

Buddy, do you still have the stock controller? Just curious.

Get in your truck, park it against a curb, put it in overdrive or 5th gear and ease on the gas...what will you get?...:lhmo:
I expect you are going to have to learn how to drive a 2 speed...... torque for climbing slabs of concrete and speed for well? Speed!

What do you want it to do?

Yeah yeah yeah:lol:..I know speed is for speed, but come on. I would expect it to climb that small bump!! Anyway, it doesn't matter. It isn't really important that it doesn't, but the squeal was interesting to me. I know I aint gonna keep doing it:thumbup: I love my new setup though!!

Scotty, I was checking out pictures the other day and would have never guessed you to be so "experienced"...that is the politically correct term for older....Not to say your old, but just older than I expected!!

Too bad your way over there on the left coast. I wouldn't mind coming to your place. If I am ever out there or near Mikes place I am definitely gonna stop!!

athomas - it has an Alltrax 4844...

Buddy, you could call EMP about the noise. I haven't experienced any noise from mine, but I've only stalled it out once. Forgot I had it in speed mode, started up a 45 degree ramp, I stopped to make sure I was lined up, then started again, it didn't move. I quickly let off and switched it to torque, but never heard a noise. Its probably just maxed out with full power coming in but, no torque to move.

Re: EMP Motor squeal/squeak

Got my new motor yesterday, but I haven't gotten it installed yet. See Chuck's e-mail below that he sent last week for possible description of the problem. Based solely on customer service I would buy another one tomorrow for another cart if I had another cart!!!!

Buddy,

I'm glad you've already checked the differential fluid level. The
reason we suggested this first is that we have heard (and seen
personally) many cases where there was little to no fluid in the
differential. This quickly causes bearing issues and that is why we
suggested it first.

With your additional description of the problem, there are a couple of
other possibilities, both in the motor and in the axle/hub assembly.
TO RULE OUT THE MOTOR AS A POSSIBILITY, WE ARE SIMPLY GOING TO MAKE YOU A REPLACEMENT UNIT AND SHIP IT OUT TO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...Due to processing time, this won't leave here for a few business days. (We'll send a prepaid return shipping label with the motor to return
the suspect unit.)

The possibilities in the axle/hub assembly I mentioned might be a
stripped out hub. I hear about this frequently from the golf car
shops around the country. The hub that the wheel lug bolts go through
is assembled onto the axle output shaft on each side. Sometimes this
joint fails and can require replacement of the hub. This doesn't have
anything to do with the motor and if you discover that the hub is
loose, that could explain all of your symptoms. It might be worth
your while to investigate this as a replacement motor could obviously
not fix that problem.

The possibility in the motor would be a slippage of the 19T female
spline on the motor's main shaft. I've honestly only seen this occur
one time on the Advanced DC Motors, so its possible, but statistically
unlikely.

Re: EMP Motor squeal/squeak

Okay since my last post I got the new motor from Chuck and sent back the old one. Been on vacation and just had a chance to install the new motor today. Well guess what...same thing. I get a squealing noise when entering my garage. Accept this time it will do the same thing in the torque mode. I had my wife drive it while I watch the axle hubs and jsut as I expected, they are fine, no stripped out axle hubs. The noise is coming from the motor area.

So, is there anything in the rear differential that can slip and make a squealing noise?? No grinding clicking or popping, just a squealing noise from something slipping. Anyhelp is appreciated.

Also, I would like to see an exploded view of the rear diff if anyone has one.
