Mounting/dismounting Tires
 

How difficult is it to mount/unmount a golf cart tire on a wheel?
Are 10 or 12 in tires more difficult than the 8 inchers?

Do you need special tools or can a person do it a home.?

If you have never dismounted/mounted a tire on a car, better get someone locally to show you how. It is done in the same fashion, except the wheels and tires are smaller. Proper tools make the job MUCH easier and safer. It can be done with just a couple of big screwdrivers and an air compressor, but you better know exactly what you are doing or you are going to get hurt or damage your wheels/tires. You may be better off to take them off your buggy and bring them down to your local tire store or lawn & garden equipment dealer. Pay the guy a couple of bucks to do it fast, properly and safely.

Good advise GMB74. They are tougher than you can imagine without a tire machine. Well worth the money spent at the tire store :wink:

Every time I order tires the seller has crushed them in the package. After that it is almost impossible to get the bead seated without a blast gun. Take em to a tire dealer. The best $40 you will ever spend!

When I got all of my tires thay came 4 in a box that was the size of one.
I ended up cutting a bunch of 12" blocks of wood and spreading the bead with them.
They sat in the sun most of the day then had no problem airing up.

Take them to a shop and save yourself some grief!!

I guess I should have given a bit more info on my past experience. I have changed tires on all kinds of wheels from go cart tires(6 inch) to my tractor tire. For the go carts I build a bead breaker and for the tractor I used the bucket to break the bead. Once the bead was broken I then was able to change the tires using common tools. HOWEVER, on my wife's SUV, although I was able to break the bead there was no way the tire was going to come off the rim without a tire machine. I also know how frustrating it can be to try and get some tires to seal on the bead.

You have to love rims without a groove to unmount the tire.

I haven't attempted a real small tire like the GC but when I changed tires out on the Jeep, I laid them down, put a 2 x 8 on the side wall and ran up the board with another vehicle until the beat broke loose. That is an easy way to do it and you're inside a vehicle out of harms way. Good luck on yours.

Given your experience in handling tires, you shouldn't have any major problems with buggy tires. Aside from getting the bead to seal,the biggest frustration I have found with doing them this way is securing the wheel so you can roll the tire bead on or off. With car/truck/tractor tires you can stand on the wheel and hold it down. Without a machine to hold it down, you sometimes end up wrestling the assembly across the floor trying to get leverage to peel the bead up.:lhmo: . Let us know how you make out.

and it runs on to the paper work you meant to file 3 days ago.
