36v club car Blown fuse
 

Hello and Thank you in advance for your help. I have a 36v CC that I recently replaced 4 of the batteries (2 were replaced last year). The relay in the charger went out last year so I bypassed it . Allright now my problem, after replaceing the 4 ten yr old Trojans with Sams club Energizers. I took it out for a ride in the neigborhood about 1mi. brought it home and decided to plug it into the charger (just for G.P.). I noticed the amp meter went to 20 amps. I thought that was strange because the batteries seemed fine, so I unplugged the charger and left it till today. I went for about a 3mi cruise came home the digital LED charge meter in the cart said it was down 1 bar out of 10 so I plugged the charger back in, turned it on. The meter went to 25 amps so I lifted the seat just to make sure every thing was OK after poking around maybe a Min. the 80 amp fuse blew Hmmmm? unplug the charger do a search on the Buggies forum and here I am. Whatcha Think?

80Amp? Where at the battery pack? Is it a controller cart? I think you should have let it charge when it wanted to the first and the second time? Think you shorted something out...? New batteries need a full charge BEFORE use.....what year cart and solid state or resistor cart?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but anytime you plug your cart in dosen't your charger always start at 20-25a?????

My cart is a 93 DS. I tried to let it carge the second time thats when the 80amp fuseable link blew.Its located under the seat attached to the top of the charging receptacale. I'll mess with it some more this afternoon any input will be appreciated.

That melted fuse is telling you you have a direct short. It won't charge with that fuse blown. Lots of guys rewire the charger receptacle to go around the old fuse. It is easy to do and works fine. You loose the protection that you obviously used :mrgreen: but you can replace it with a $4 175 amp fuse from any auto parts store mounted between the battery pack Negative post and the cart...... Do you have a voltmeter? Is this a controller cart or resistor? If you can't tell how about posting a picture of the battery compartment? 8)

How can you tell if my cart is a resistor or controller? I can send pics tomorrow, I spent all day working on my friends GT3 SCCA race car. No chance to mess with golf cart. I have plenty of tools Multi Meter ,Test light Yada Yada Yada, I was kind of looking for a silver bullet. I'm sure we will get this thing licked soon. Thanks scottyb
