Ok, so I have been asked by a few of you to do a build thread on my cart. I bought this cart for $300 off of Craigslist. It needed batteries and a little TLC. I sold the batteries for scrap at $10 each. I also sold the old controller for $150 and the 36 volt charger for $125. So now I am up $35

Teardown. No rust (California cart) just a little dirt.

So, since I am lowering the cart, I cut the drivers side rear shock mount to give plenty of clearance for the motor since I moved the axle forward 1" to center the tires in the wheel wells. I also ordered an Alltrax 48400 DCS controller and 200 amp solenoid from Scottyb. I made cables out of 0 gauge wire (overkill).

I ordered two Chevy Volt 12 cell lithium batteries and a volt meter off of ebay. These batteries are normal voltage 44.4 volts and 100% charged 50.4 volts. The board is a BMS to balance the individual cells in each battery. There is one on each battery. I am not using them to control the charger. I did enclose them in a waterproof case ( not pictured). I am keeping the stock 36 volt motor until it dies . The first run on the cart with the batteries at 45.4 volts, no charger yet, was 25 mph on stock tires.

So originally I wrapped the cart with blue carbon fiber 5 mil vinyl. Pain in the *** to do. After it was done The wife and I didn't like it. She said "rip it off and paint it" so I did. After all " happy wife, happy life!"

So I built a getto paint booth in the garage. I went down to the local auto body supply and bought adhesion promoter, reducer, a quart of PPG satin black, hardener .....etc. I already had an HVLP paint gun form Harbor Freight Tools and a compressor. I had painted a car back in the 80's but nothing since. Time to try my skills or lack of again. I painted the roof with Rustoleum bed liner out of a rattle can. We will see how it holds up.

So all that was left was upholstery and my charger. I ordered upholstery from uptoparcovers.com and a 50.4 volt charger off of ebay. Initial run I went 23.2 miles and still had 45% soc on the meter. The second run was 30 miles and 18% soc left. Top speed with the 215/35/14/rear tires, a charge of 50.1 volts on flat ground is 29 mph. I programed user 1 settings in the controller to 80% throttle which gives me about 20 mph, for the golf course. I put a push button on the dash to switch between modes.

Here is the button. I also put in a usb charging port. The headlights and taillights are led. I installed a 30 amp 48v to 12v reducer to run the accessories.

Very nice work indeed! Did you use tinted vinyl to black out the LED taillights?

No. It is in a spray can. It's called VHT Nite-Shades. I bought it at the auto parts store.
