Yamaha engine removal
hey guys im gonna take my engine out to clean it (all the nasty oil and grease on the back and underside of the engine) and so i can paint the plastics and block and stuff.....is there any wires i have to worry about when im removing it? this shouldnt be too hard right? am i gonna need to measure to allign it back up when it goes back in?

Just disconnect all the wires and hoses (mark what you need to), remove the two bolts holding on the swing arm and two lower bolts holding in the rear shocks, and pull the entire engine/trans all at once. Don't forget to disconnect the brake cables. :wink:

I don't know HOW do get a Yamaha engine out, but I'd get some oven cleaner for those tough stains, and then get some of that EagleOne Etching Mag Cleaner for the aluminum, it works great on the whole engine compartment, gets it VERY clean, the block and the heat shields. 8) :wink:

They are very easy to take out just do what spriddle said.

well i have shift cables and brake cables.....those should be easy....but i really dont want to do that if i dont have to.....i see how to get the engine out with the bolts holding it to the engine cradle but will i need new allignment when i put the engine back in?

No, you won't have to realign anything really. It will line itself back up with the engine mounts.

The shift and brake cables can stay. Just unplug all the wires going to the
engine and disconnect the choke & throttle cable & battery. Remove the muffler and drive belt and fuel line. The easy way to pull it out is cadle and engine together. Leave the engine on the cradle, you won't lose any alignment. It is easier than it looks. |

no i decided to hold off till warmer weather so i can hit the block with my 1800PSI power washer.... 8) 8)
