Kubota D782 swap

5 Attachment(s)
Hey all

I have many questions I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to help a noob with. Working on a swap from a Kubota GR2100 lawn tractor which has the D782 Diesel.

I am working on dropping it into my cart, (this is the first time I have attempted anything like this) and have a few questions maybe some of you out there can help me with.

Current config of cart:
Engine: Kohler CH395 9.5hp 277cc gas engine
Transmission: Dana-Spicer - Model 012AJ420-1

Once I get the d782 mounted/inline with the driven CVT of the transaxle is the driver part of the CVT mounted to the flywheel of the d782?

What else is required to make this work in the cart? The lawn tractor has a manual throttle and choke etc. I assume these will no longer be needed?

I have read through every diesel build thread trying to get as much info as I can before asking my questions.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Kubota D782 swap

Just realized I posted "help" in the title of my thread... sorry about that.

I am new to the site, located in Texas, only have the one cart/utv and a busted Kubota GR2100 that I am stealing parts off of.

I am trying to make this Kubota D782 work in my cart, but I do not have the fabrication skills or knowledge of motors/gear ratios that a lot of you have on here. I was looking at rmack898's post, starting to think I might be in over my head.

Hi,
How goes the project? It will be much work, but nothing impossible even if your skills are modest at this point. It all depends on your level of want.

I have not done a diesel conversion, but several clones and v twins.

Search my posts and see if I may be of assistance to you and we can talk.

A lot of those baby diesels have a 4.5 on 5 bolt pattern tapped in to the flywheel to mount the clutch to run reefer units, what does your flywheel look like? You can drill a piece of plate to that pattern and have it machined true, giving you the ability to mount most anything to it. Your rpm will probably be governed to around 3600, you will need to modify your gearing to reach any kind of decent top speeds. Looks like another build I saw on here used 8:1 gearing for top speed and a 1190 clutch with proper springs.
I put a kubota out of a reefer unit on my pontoon boat, never messed with trying to get it in a cart. Had to have a couple one off adapters machined and built custom mounts for the throttle and kill switch.

Let me get some pictures of the flywheel.
I spoke with my buddy at Zimmerer Kubota and he stated it should basically be the same as the Kubota D722 that they put in the clubcar xrt 1550. But I have no idea since I don't own one of those.
There is supposed to be a CVT shaft adapter for the flywheel, he says he thinks it will fit the D782.

Is it even worth putting this diesel in my cart in your opinion?

izzybird thanks for the info/advice.

This is the flywheel on my D782.
Attached a parts list for the club car xrt1550 part number 14 is the CVT adapter. No clue if it actually would work or not.

To modify the gearing... The transaxle in the cart now, I get max speeds of around 25mph. Any thoughts as to what I might need to modify?

Also looking for some wheel adapters if anyone has any laying around.

4x4 (cart bolt pattern) to 4x110 (wheel bolt pattern) (4x101.6mm to 4x110mm)

Re: Kubota D782 swap

Unless you source those parts or find a cheap donor club car 1550, you are going to have to get creative. There are thousands of adapters that bolt to those flywheels, it’s just figuring out what would work in your instance. The way you currently sit, your best option is to use as much as you possibly can off the mower and marry it to your cart. How, I’m not sure. Looks like the driveshaft for the lawntractor comes off the front of the motor? Nothing currently bolted to the flywheel? Where are you located in Texas? Call every cart boneyard you can find and look for parts. Getting someone to machine small one off parts is almost impossible, I have a guy in Cedar Park (outside Austin) that will do so if it helps you. I’m a compression ignition addict and I hope to see you succeed in this endeavor.

Dang, he put a lot of work in to that. I wonder if it is up and running yet? Good example of someone with some sense and access to quality tools.
