B&S 16hp I/C single

Hello all, is the I/C 16 single any good for a swap? I have a 90 clubcar carryall that I will pull a race car with. I found that it's cast iron and tall that's about it. Do t need to go 40 mph but 20 and pulling power would be great.

If you are looking for an inexpensive torque monster, look for a used 16hp Briggs Vanguard Vtwin. In good running condition they should go for $350-$450, but you'll want to make sure you find one with a 1" straight crankshaft. In stock form they will impress you with how much torque they have, perfect for pulling a racecar. But the show doesn't end with the engine, you'll need good clutches. Primary clutch go with the Comet 780, and get a good stock secondary clutch, and a new HD belt.

Check our sponsors for all the parts. The engine, well, for a used one you are on your own.

Thanks for the advice. I won't waste my time on the single.

If you can get the 16 for cheap or very little cost and it runs good some further pursuit is worthwhile. The next concern would be if it has a 1 or 1 1/8 crankshaft snout. You can then use a comet clutch. So if you can do some fab work installing the engine it certainly could do all you require.

It may not rev as much as other engines meaning you won't get big top speeds, but it should pull stuff ok. It will be way better than stock.

Right make sure you can get a clutch on it first.

At 115lbs, side-valve and unsupported for mods, I'd pass on the I/C

Finally picked up a brand new 16 vanguard. It was on clearance at northern tool for 974.00 and I asked what there best price was and he said 800.00. I bought it! Pull start and electric 1" shaft.

You won't be disappointed. New, with a warranty, doesn't get much better than that. Now get to work hunting down the rest of the items you'll need.

Nicely done! You won't be disappointed with the Vtwin. Even in stock form they are a huge upgrade from a stock golf cart engine.
