drives in reverse, randomly forward

I did a search and havent found an answer ...

I have a 99 four stroke that I eyeballed the gap setting on the valves.( I'm not sure if this is part of the issue or not.)
The cart ran great for a month, then the cart does always move in forward.

It appears the the clutch is moving ( i will need to check direction compared to reverse); but, There is no movement.
Make any sense?

I switched the forward / reverse back and forth quickly then it ran forward briefly and dropped off.

Any possible suggestions.

sorry for the quick verbage, i was typing between calls at work.

Re: drives in reverse, randomly forward

You may have a stripped out hub. Take off the hubcap and have someone watch the nut on the axle ( both sides ), while you try and move the cart. If the nut is spinning, the hub is stripped out. It has a splined axle and the hub is the part that usually strip's out. When you get a hub, tighten the nut to 140ft lbs, and tighten it more to line up the cotter pin hole, if necessary.

Your valve adjustment is important to do correctly, but it has no bearing on the no go issue.
