Yamaha G1 Diesel Swap Kubota D722-TE turbo
5 Attachment(s)
Starting this thread to document the process of this engine swap. Ill start with the engine.
I purchased this engine at a military surplus auction about 6 months ago and was going to put it in a Cub Cadet 128 but decided to put in this old Yamaha G1 instead. It is a Kubota D722-TE 3 cylinder turbo diesel. I have tried to find specs on it but have had no luck since it is an engine that is produced by Kubota for the US military only. As this point I have removed the 2 stroke and an getting ready to fabricate the lift for it. The diesel is much taller than the old 2-smoker so I am lifting it 10" and plan on running 23 x 10.5 - 12 garden tractor agricultural bar tread tires. This should put it about 12.5" higher than stock ride height. Here are some pics of the engine and where I'm at now with the disassembly. Looking to get the rear part of the lift done this weekend. |

Not sure why all the pics are upside down. Must be my old a** phone!:limo:
Sorry about that. Just have to turn your lap tops upside down to see them right. |

I have a Yanmar diesel in a G1. Been running it for a couple of years now and really like it. Height wise it was a just barely situation. Your going to have to install a modified rear axle to get reverse.

Would love to get a rear end with reverse for a decent price but I'm not going to spend $400 for a rear end. That seems to be the going rate around here.

Advertised for a none running Yamaha G2 through G9. A guy sold me the whole cart less engine for $100. Try it, you might get a better deal.

did you post your add here or local Craigslist or somewhere else?

Can't remember if it was the local Farmers Market radio program or Craig's list. Either would be a good starting point. The differential will have to be modified for the mounts to work but it sure beats pushing the cart backwards.
