ezgo txt quits when hot
I have a 96 ezgo txt 36v that after a few minutes of running, it will quit. I just put in a new solenoid 36v 50 amp, when it stops the lead going from the solenoid to speed controller is very hot. Any ideas.

Re: ezgo txt quits when hot
The speed controller is going into thermal shutdown. When it cools it will operate again until it gets hot. This cycle will repeat more frequently until eventually the cart will going to shut down and not come back on.
It's time to start looking at upgraded speed controls like the Alltrax SR control. |

Thank you. If I upgrade the controller do I need to also upgrade the solenoid?

Re: ezgo txt quits when hot
The short answer is yes. The reason is because in upgraded speed controller will allow more amperage to flow from the battery pack to the motor. This amperage goes through the solenoid so solenoid must be rated high enough to handle the increased flow.
Typically 400 amp controllers require 200 amp solenoids. And larger controllers of 500 to 600 amps require 400 amp solenoids. With this reason we combo package speed controllers and heavy-duty solenoids where the solenoid cost is greatly reduced. |
