wiring up hazard flasher 95 DS cart
 

Hi. I am new to this forum. I want to hook up a hazard flasher to my exsisting LED stop/turn/tail lights on my 95 DS Club Car 36 volt cart. They are regular LED trailer lights (3 wire) that are only hooked up for tail lights right now. The lights are hooked up to a regular toggle switch (spst). I hooked up the only wire left for stop lights to a 262 flasher but I get nothing. The tail lights work fine and when I put power to the stop wire I got the brighter light but still got no flash. The flasher has 2 prongs on it. "X" for power and "L" for load so I put "X" to the + post on battery and "L" to the lights. I tried a different flasher but still nothing. I have installed the head lights,tail lights,and a mini LED lightbar on roof without any issues. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Much thanks for any help with this.

LEDs tail lights often do not pull enough current to trigger a standard flasher circuit.

you can try a automotive tail light bulb in place of the LEDs to confirm this is indeed the problem. if so, you can wire a resistor in parallel with the LEDs to increase the load on the flasher. link resistors are down about 7/8 of the page. on that same page you'll see flashers made specifically for LEDs. these require no reistor.

i lucked out on mine... opened it up and found a pot that needed turning to lower the current threshold.

I did test the flasher with a set of old brake lights and they worked fine. The LED lights seem to work fine without the 262 flasher. I then hooked up a LED flasher from an old security car we have here thats dead and that flasher works fine with the LED tail lights so it must be like you said about not drawing enough for the flasher to work. Only problem with the LED flasher I have here is it flashes like a fire truck and I didn't want that- just a simple hazard style flash like a car has. I guess the flasher on the link is fairly simple to install,probably just a few wires right? Thanks for your help on this. The local golf cart shop couldn't tell me anything as they said the new carts they deal with still use regular lights not LED.

Ok the police style LED flasher I put in line with the LED brake lights started to bubble up after a few minutes of use then finally popped the 5 amp fuse. The guy we buy them from thinks the pack was defective. I ordered a LED flasher (FL2-RED) from the link posted. Lets see if I have any better luck with that flasher...

Ok I installed the new flasher. It works fine however it flashes a little fast. Even faster if I put on the headlights. I'd like to slow it down a bit if possible. I tested the voltage and got 12.6 all around. Any ideas on what could be causing the flasher to flash fast like it is?

pop it open if you can and look for a trimpot.

Yes I've been there before. I finally joined. Good info. The cars I never really run into any issues but the golf carts I really don't deal with too much as far as lights and stuff. This site has been very helpful to me so far with this stuff.
