1998 DS help
 

Help guys, cousin has a 98 DS cart. I'm pretty sure it is a regen cart.
Problem is when you push the pedal it moves inches and jerks to a stop. I have looked at it and when you switch the run/tow switch to run you can hear a small black square relay type thing click maybe on and then off @ 5 secs later.
I get 40 volts to that relay when the R/T switch is flipped to run but then drops to 0 after the 5 secs and relay goes out.
Pack volts are 40.01 and cables are so so clean.
Any Ideas that might help get'er fixed?
Can I unplug or disconnect the regen some how?

Scotty I looked at it for like 10 minutes and didn't pay attention to 36 or 48 volts.
You telling me this is a 48V cart and I overlooked the basic 1st rule?
Well don't I look like a newbie pud knocker.
Would low pack voltage not hold the relay in and cause this?

Depends on the relay , and if it did close , the cart still would not move !

Crash I don't know when they made the last 36v cart? I do know they continued to produce them for their fleet customers long after the 48v models came out... but 40 is either too high for 36 or too low for 48 ???
1998 I'm thinking 48v ....

I have a 98 CC and it was a 36v cart, so it may be possible that he has a 36v cart.

If the batteries have 3 filler holes (for water) they are 6 volt, if they have 4 filler holes they are 8 volt, and with 6 filler holes they are 12 volt. That will get ya the supposed voltage of the batteries, but not what the car is designed to run on.

Ok, I'm back from the lake for a few hours. Here's the deal:

I just "assumed" it was 36V cart but after scotty smacked me with the "Duh" hammer I actually looked at it. Yes, I had ignored the basics.
It's a 48V cart with 6 8V batteries (4 holes each), 5 of one kind 1/2 dry and one of those has a melted post with a wood screw holding the cable in it.
The 6th one is an old Trojan he said he just bought because one was bad, that one peaks at a whoppin 1.01Volts.
On top of all that he has replaced all of the cables with the junk "ford" type that you get from Wally World.

He needs a good kick for doing what he did But I need a double kick for overlooking the obvious.
He is buying batteries and cables for the weekend.
