Help with new steering wheel horn kit..
 

I just purchased a new steering wheel, which came with a horn button and wiring. I currently have the stock column horn button (2008 Precedent) with the black sleeve that covers the horn wiring. Is it as simple as disconnecting the two wires on the old button, and putting them on the new button? Also, how much slack should there be on the wires to compensate for turning the wheel? Pictures are welcome.:thumbup:

I would also like to know how hard it is to switch out a steering wheel and
are the after market wheels are as good as the one's that Club Car sells?

If your original horn was run through your voltage reducer it should be plug and play(remove wires and and replace on new button), also the steering wheels I use the horn is separate from the turning mech so no slack should be required for this.

Honestly, I would recommend you leave the button where it is on the column.

On a car, there is a contact ring that the power transfers through instead of the wires. This is to keep the wires from chafing or breaking and causing a short.

Golf carts don't have this feature.

The stereo system is the only thing currently on the reducer. I was thinking that the new button would simply complete the circuit when pressed like the old one did? What should I do if anything?

If you use the proper adapter, the only problem can be getting your old steering wheel off. Depending on how old your cart is and how long your wheel has had to bond to the column, it can be a bear to get the old wheel off. Some members have had to cut their old ones off actually.

After it's off and you have all the right parts to put the new one on, it's just a matter of making sure the new steering wheel is straight before tightening everything up.

As far as the aftermarket wheel's safty concerns, they are built to a much higher standard than the Golf Cart steering wheels because they are made to conform to the Automotive Safty Standards.

Because vehicles go much faster and weigh a whole lot more than golf carts do, the companies have to design the parts to be safe for major high speed accidents.

Its an 08 and although it didn't go quietly, I was able to pop the steering wheel off with a plastic mallet. The wheel is already installed without the use of the new button just to just to make sure everything fit, which it did. I may just leave it that way, but it sure looks cleaner without it.

i wouldnt use the horn on the wheel for reasons already stated. i dont know how long the wiring would last having to twist any time the wheel is turned

Thanks for the suggestions, kept the old button. If it aint broke, don't fix it..:thumbup:
