club car batteries not taking full charge

have 5 year old club car (6 batteries) that sits for two to three months at a time. Never had a problem with it taking a charge. After the latest 3 month layover the batteries are not taking a full charge. Charger reading starts at 15 then goes down to 6.5 and stops...after that the batteries and the charger just get hot but no more charging. The cart goes less than a mile and then dies. Plug it in again and same thing. Is there another fix other than replacing all the batteries???

Have you checked the water level and all the connections?

When you say stops , does this mean the charger cuts off or that it just stays at 6.5.
If the cart has a OBC or a intelligent charger then it can take up to 16 hours to charge Batteries, then the charger should shut off automatically.
Do what roady89 said then
Give the charger 15 Hours and see what happens.
30 minutes after charger is removed check pack Voltage with a Digital Volt meter and post results here .

I checked all the water levels, connections and fuse. Charged with charger for 14 hours and meter never dropped below 6.5. used again yesterday...got about a half mile and the cart was out of power and had to be pushed home.

One or more bad batteries..... have all batteries tested with a load tester. Replace cables when you install new batteries!

What brand of batteries do you have ?
how old - stamped on Battery posts ?
Do you own a digital Volt meter, if not get a DIGITAL Meter.
Take Voltage reading across entire pack , + on Battery #1 to - on Battery #6
If pack Voltage is low , then measure each Battery
If you have a battery Hydrometer then check cells on weak batteries.

Here is a chart to help .
