Express L6 72v Upgrade - Rear Cargo Deck Rails

All,

I recently purchased a 2018 72v Express L6. I like that everything was pretty heavy duty straight from the factory, but I do plan to make a few upgrades. Since BGW is very easily searchable (especially directly from Google) I'll try to document my upgrades in individual threads. For whatever reason, I don't get notifications from the BGW site, so if you have questions, email me. My email is bedn0009@ Google's email service.

My first upgrade was to add these rails to the flat cargo deck area under the flip-flop seat. I wanted to have something that would contain my cargo, but was detached from the cart without tools and in a matter of seconds. I think I found a good solution:
  • I used countersunk neodymium magnets which are screwed into the wood and align with the rear handrails to keep it in place. Not countersinking the magnets was intentional - the rear handrails deflect out from 90 degres - the magnets act almost like shims
  • I attached swivel hasps to each inside corner to create a mechanical connection for all 3 pieces
  • If I need to take all 3 of the rails off, it's 15 seconds. I'm sure the magnets will eventually scratch the inside rails, but those are easily touched up.
  • This is made of oak, finished with 3 coats of Waterlox, and the top of the rails is 11" off the deck
  • So far (fingers crossed) it doesn't move at all when I hit bumps - and it doesnt rattle or make noise whatsoever
  • All of the hardware (except the hasps) is stainless steel
  • This cost me about $75 to build

That's it!

Nice work. These work really well for corners on wooden stake bed sides.

Those are nice. Would have saved me 4 hours of thinking!

Waiting on my L6 so just browsing for ideas and accessories and I like this since the rear seat won't be used all the time. We go back and forth from in laws alot and kids always want to take toys, scooters, etc. On our TXT our clay basket has been the best.

Im already brainstorming how to make some sort of turning cam that locks the side rails from the inside of the arm rails. But they are using a new rear seat now so well have to see what I can do.
