My ezgo build (on air)
So I finally got enough along on the cart to start a build. I work at a stereo shop and when times are slow and I'm between customer's vehicles, I have been slowly working on this newly acquired cart. It's an ezgo txt and that's about all I know. The vin plate was painted over and I can't find anything else with a date on it. Seems to be a DCS cart because of the location of the f and r switch and it having a run/tow switch. And it's pre-2001 because of the older style steering. I picked it up for $800 and I quickly found out that I got royally screwed over. It's got some frame rot and the battery tray is toast. The batteries and electronics are good but it Ned's a lot of factory parts. I didn't really know what I was looking for when I first inspected. I've learned a lot in the past month or so since we bought it. Well anyway onto the pics.
Here it is at work http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9369de11.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psb8f0efeb.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psd0afe24c.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pse60136ec.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9e19eb76.jpg I started tearing it apart http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pscc7c8db5.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps7b84df32.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps2094953a.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9132f902.jpg I found a golf cart shop/ezgo dealer that's only like 25 minutes from the house. They are super cool and let me get a take off body for $75. And they gave me a sweater basket with all the brackets for free! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psc1f43dc1.jpg And heres where I found the reason why the steering wheel would flex up and down http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps3487cf7e.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psc73780c0.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps01897600.jpg And the steering that's probably gonna give me the biggest problem when I lower it on air shocks http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psc20f67a3.jpg |
Gonna be a great build

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
We loaded it up and took it to the car wash to blow off the years of dirt and neglect
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps14a4d04b.jpg Looks alil better cleaned up http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psfbb316f5.jpg I pulled the front suspension off. Plans are to Z the crossmember to locate the spindles higher http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps233ff1e4.jpg Started treating the frame with some primer http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psa850e3db.jpg And here's what I got done today. I got the rusted corners plated http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psaaa6f39f.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps835fc2c2.jpg This coming week the plan is to get the battery tray built and the crossmember sectioned |
Re: My ezgo build (on air)
Nice progress. There's several guys who have bagged their carts. Search for them in the On Road section if you need references. Monkey1 is the first name that comes to mind.

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
Yeah I've read thru monkey-1's and also Hotcats. They were very thorough and very informative in their threads. I learned a few great ideas from them and I'm sure I'll be asking them more things. I'm familiar with air suspension as a whole if you couldn't already tell by the Mazda in the background lol

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
I feel like such a slacker, you've made much more progress Thani have! Lol. Nice work man.

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
Haha only reason I have is because it's been slow at work. I'm sure once it comes down to buying parts I'm gonna slow down some

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
Got alil more work done. I got the frame all finished up and painted black
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psd3655758.jpg I also got the front crossmember cut and sectioned up. It's pretty much a free 2" drop http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps70482613.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps5f36c3f6.jpg |
I like the drop axle you made. I considered something similar but narrowing it a couple inches so I could tuck some cool wheels. I haven't had time to dig in that much so I flipped the leaves instead.

Re: My ezgo build (on air)
Yeah the thought had crossed my mind about narrowing it while I was cutting on it. I wish I had my wheels now so I could use them for the mocking. Hopefully I can find something decent looking in a 12x6 in a 2+4 offset
