chargeing cycles
 

when I run my cart and after a full round of golf I charge the the batteries..
the ammeter goes to 12 amps and after 2 hrs it drops to 10 and stays there, the next morning it is off...in the past after about 6-8 hrs it did drop down to about 5 and and the next am it was off...should I been concerned about many hrs of charge until shut down..I do not know how many hrs it was running. I start charging about 12 noon and when I come out in the morning it is off and the orange lite is flashing and when I unplug the charger it goes out.

the water levels are normal, voltages are 8.2 with #4 and 5 are 7.6 volt, after complete charge all voltage are about 8.6

is the long charging period harmful or is this normal the batteries are about 2 years old

next time you charge it run it about 30 seconds than check voltag of each battery they should be approx 8.5 or better......if they are 8.2 than load test each battery............what brand battery are they..................................8)

The battaeries which are 7.6 may of some concern and the reason why your charger is working harder & longer than before. Do they have accessories connected to them....8)

Shadow man thanks for the reply...after a full nite charge the reading on batteries are
8.58 8.47 8.52 8.57 8.38 8.46 after a 30 sec run
8.49 8.49 8.51 8.58 8.39 8.45 not too much change
the batteries are CROWN cr 165 they were installed in nov 06
the car is a cc serial 2a0420 767329

I had the cart worked on about 4 weeks ago and he replaced the obc, relay, cables
he said due to the age of batteries it was normal to charge that high, his batteries were the same age and his did the same thing...I am not sure of his technical ablility as I did not think they should charge that long..maybe I am worring about nothing.
I do not have a load checker...I do not have any other things attached to the system other than lites and horn...there is a red wire on the #5 battery that goes to a little black box and there is 4 wires coming out of it( not sure what that is) and the voltage to the box is 34v and I made sure the the voltage was getting to the box by piercing the insulation with a shark probe..On the wireing diagram I did not see that wire coming off of the battery...am I worrying too much about nothing...also the weather here in the desert is about 100 degrees...that is my story a and I am sticking to it..

those are good #,s for the batts, as for charge time it could be the age if they are older batts.....if you want to put your mind at ease have the batts, load tested and cells checked with a hydrometer if that works out good get some sleep...................................8)

sorry i just reread your post and batts are only 2 years old, as long as charger is shutting off and batts arn,t boiling over and no excessive heat you should be fine.......................8)

On my obc which I think is a 2004 club car...what exactly does the obc do..
I know it is in charge of charging....but is it current sensing or is time. or both...can I overcharge with it??? everybody gives very short answers is there a place where I get specific answers so that I can understand technically what is going on...you have been most helpful so far and I am pushing the envelope

OBC ( on board computer ) manages the charging of the cart if it goes bad your cart charger won,t work.........follow the neg battery cable from #6 battery you,ll see where it goes thur a square item that is the OBC it senses thats why the cable runs thur it.............your cart is running and charging so its good if it goes bad the cart may or may not quit running but for sure the charger either won,t turn on at all or will not shut off at all and fry the batteries, as long as charger is working and shutting off your good.........................8)
