Is there anyway to speed up my 1990 Club Car DS 36v V-Glide cart?
I have read it can get expensive. Only got cart for 100 dollars.

Well you can do like I'm getting ready to do (hopefully) and convert it to a 48 volt controller cart.......probably right at 2 grand with batteries and charger

Send your motor to Plum Quick for a Bandit upgrade. Cost you about $250 and will give you about 20% increase in speed.

Is that possible for the 36v vglide cart?

I am 90% sure. Call them and find out. They told me they could do a 36v for me to put into my 48v cart.

Or you can sell me your stock 36v and put that money tward a bad *** new 36v. ;)

Plum quick can do a 36volt bandit but nothing above that. How fast do you want to go and what is your budget?

My budget is not that big. Is there any other way to speed it up other than the motor?

Voltage = Speed
Amperage = Torque

Without adding more voltage you will get no more speed. A motor upgrade will be MUCH cheaper then upgrading to 48 volts.

All this comes from another member here and I didn't try any of it as I just don't like the resistor setup........have no clue if it works but in theory, it should....


The high step v-glide bypass is a low cost alternative to use 4 gauge cables and not go through the v-glide. You would only need an additional 36V solenoid, cables and some 10-12 or 14ga wire. You could utilize 4 gauge cables for the bypass and all other cables except v-glide to resistor coil cables. That way, at full throttle, you would get the most juice without going through the v-glide and resistors. If you don’t already have a heavy duty FnR switch, you should get one, regardless if you do the bypass or not. Worn FnR’s cause problems. Heavy Duty is better unit.

An option for higher speed would be to use the high step v-glide bypass and add a 6V or 12V battery between the high step v-glide solenoid and the motor. Motor will only see more volts at full throttle and you would be running 42V or 48V, depending on which battery you used. Again, the higher volts would not be going through your v-glide or resistors.

You could play with the resistor coils as the other members suggested to smoothen out the jump from 36V to 42V or 48V. You would also need to charge the extra battery separately from the main battery pack. If you don’t like the extra voltage, then just remove the battery out of the circuit and you’re back to 36V.



Adding the extra battery is another way to get more speed without over-volting the v-glide and having a meltdown. I may play with this also when the bypass is installed.

FYI – I learned of the Bypass from the Buggies Unlimited web site (it is not my idea). They used to sell it but I don’t see it offered on their site anymore. Probably because they didn’t sell many as anyone can source the parts cheaper.
