Vglide to controller, is this right?
 

After reading all I can find here I think I know what I need to do. I am working on an 89 cc and more torque is the goal. I've been told by the local "experts" that lifting a 36 volt cart is a no no, but I think they are wrong. I understand that 48 volts is better, but I've got nearly new batteries and I would hate to drop the money for 6 8volts. That being said, I will run 36 for a while until I need new batteries and then jump to 48. Am I right in my understanding that to uprgade to a high torque motor and controller that I will need to get rid of the v glide and the resistor coils and and simply add the controller and a pot and rewire everything with 4 guage wire? Those that I have talked to say that this is a headache and a really bad idea. I don't see that. Am I missing something?

They are wrong. No telling how many people have lifted those carts without any trouble at all. The problem is in the resistors. If you load them too much they will burn out. ( At WOT the resistors are out of the circuit.) You can ugrade to 48 volts and keep the resistors but anything over 48 and your asking for a headache. Chances are the local "experts" are trying to sell you another cart.

Yes, if you upgrade to an electronic controller the whole stock system will need to be removed.

I am assuming WOT means wide open throttle? Also, if I stay with 36v for now and upgrade to a controller etc., all I will need to do when I go to 48v is add a 48v solenoid right?

Your controller would have to be 36-48v.....

Most aftermarket controllers like the Alltrax will run on 36 or 48 volts. If you bought an Alltrax AXE, stayed with 36 volts and later decide to up the voltage to 48 all you need is the batteries, a charger and a 48 volt solenoid.

Hi, I am in the same process as well. I changed the motor to a GE raptor, and before the controller and pot box arrived I had a DOT inspection so I had to load the cart into the truck, It took all of about 5 seconds (literally) to overheat the V-glide wiper thus letting the contact loose and stick in "OF COURSE" full throttle :shock:! It wheelied up the ramps and into the back of the cab before I could shut the key off ! I guess the reason for my story is change it all at once, because it sucks if you dont !!! Anyone know a good bodyman ? :oops: Mike P.S. Its all good nobody saw it happen :lol:
