'83 Columbia Restoration

I was gifted a free '83 Columbia a few years ago. It was gifted to me because the motor was seized and I figured I could use it for parts. Last year I was "gifted" a '91 Columbia because the drum brakes were all frozen and, while possible to repair, that renders that era Columbia cart junk as replacing those brake systems cost a lot more than the cart is worth. I went ahead and threw the '91 motor in the '83 and, after new cranks seals, new head and base gaskets, new carb and gaskets, etc. I have it running pretty good. Just got her painted up. Given the classic look of the '83 Columbia (H.D. body with a Columbia motor in it) I wanted to give it an original look, hence the light tan golf cart color that most people can't wait to paint over.

All the same, this is probably the easiest "restoration" I have done to date. This thing should be road worthy within a week or two. I certainly have some floor work to do, that's for sure.

Getting closer on this one. Got the seats on. I converted from points to an HEI ignition as well and it seems to be running well. I should be able to road test this week which will let me know if the clutches are good or not.

I got the 83 done. It will be going to the camp this weekend to join my other old carts. This thing turned out way better than expected. It is running awesome (knocking on wood). I only wish that I would have taken some "before" pics. I didn't realize that this would become a marquis restore at the time.
