ignition module
would there be any interest for the circuit layout and internal components of an ignition module?

I looked into trying to "fix" the module in my '83. With the replacement going for $200+.
But I did not get too far. Many of the component mfgs did not want to help unless I was buying 1000 of them. I converted over to points, But still wonder about trying to fix the module, but that's over my head. If you have more of an electronics understanding please share :help: |
Re: ignition module
sorry for such the long time span. i have been doing research in my spare time, trying to cross reference all the outdated components in my module. for some odd reason some of the manufactures i talked to apparently do not keep records of their discontinued parts. i have tested every component in my module and found that i had a bad transistor (part listed in your pic rca9202c). after i replaced that all was fine. now i still have a little bit of research left and i will post the circuit diagram and a list of current day, near perfect, replacement parts.
i noticed your board is very clean... was it not encased in epoxy? |
Re: ignition module
No mine was not in epoxy, just some wax like material, not too hard to clean up.
If you could post the more modern #s, that would be great! You are the only other person that had this idea to fix the module |
Re: ignition module
Harley used some modules on cycles so you might check the J&P catalog for replacement modules.

Re: ignition module
That is a good idea tew.
Thanks!! |

Re: ignition module
The circuit diagram would be nice to have. There were not many parts in there that would be prone to failure. I would like to have the circuit and try to repair one. Judging from what I see repair should be fairly simple. However I did not see what triggers the transistor. Please send any info you can come up with.
