Just Ordered AMD "The Beast" Motor, Good or Bad?

My buggy left me in the woods this weekend with a fried motor. The rut is going to kick off this week so I needed to get a motor fast and get back out there. I would have preferred to have had the PQ Grizzly motor but its a two week build time and it will be over by then. I called about a few other motors and they wanted $350 and up for overnight shipping. Not happening!

I found the AMD Beast motor in my state and will be here tomorrow with ground shipping, so I went with that. I've got the Alltrax SPX48600 controller and everything else has already been upgraded so its just time for a motor.

Is there any feedback on the AMD Beast, good, bad or indifferent? Did I make a mistake? Help me feel a little better about the decision I made with my hands tied.

Thanks in advance!

You need the correct field map file to take full advantage of the new motor capabilities.

Check with Alltrax to see if they have a specific field map file for that motor that You will need to load into your SPM48600.

I'll do just that! I knew it was a different style of controller so there was going to be a learning curve. Thank you for your input Sergio.

SPM is a series controller. Field map? Or did you mean DCX/XCT

LOL, You are absolutely right, I had SEPEX on my mind.

xfactor, as kernal point it out, Series motors don't need a separate field map file since You cannot control the field curve by itself.

Thank you for the feedback guys! Any input on that motor? I hope it performs as it's advertised to!

Just wondering, do you think all the other upgrades fried the motor, or the way the cart was being used?

I ran a Beast motor on 72 volts for 2 deer seasons on a locked differential with 25 inch tires. I beat the crap out of it, yanking trees out of the ground and climbing inclines golf cars simply weren't meant to climb, and it never had a single issue. It's a beast.

It is very possible. I had my Alltrax go out not too long ago and replaced it with the GE 700amp. I turned the output to about 2/3 and got 1 1/2 hunting trips out of it. Motor ran fine for the two years I had the Alltrax on it. Could be just coincidence or it could have caused it, I honestly cant say. That being said, I ordered the Alltrax SPM 48600 and I'm going to use that with the motor.

That's nice to hear. Did you have the GE model or the AMD, are they the same? I'm running 48 volts now with 25 in tires. Will I still be happy? I do plan on dropping down to 23in tires at the first of the year. Would the difference in tire size really make that much difference?

Thanks!
