Just got my first cart! '96 48v series, what do I have

So I finally bought my first cart from my BIL, looks like it has a couple extras. Batts are dated 7/12 Energizer, are these decent batts? I included pics of the motor and controller too. Any info on these are greatly appreciated. I'm assuming that's an aftermarket motor?
It even has pioneer stereo and alpine speakers. :) Looks like the tires are 18" but I'd like to lift it and put 22-23" tires on it. He said he put a new "transmission" on it to make it faster, I don't know if he meant the motor, rear end or what. I gps'd it and was on uneven ground but it clocked between 13-17 mph depending on slope. It feels like real good torque now but not sure if it will be enough for the bigger tires. Guess we'll see! I paid 1000$

Nice looking cart...
That is indeed an aftermarket motor, but the controller is stock.
Energizer batts are a cheaper battery, but that doesn't mean they won't run the cart- maintenance is the key.
Congrats on the new cart and welcome to the fun!

Thanks JS23! Looking forward to learning more about carts in general, seems like there's tons of info here on the forums. I looked at the motors website and see that it has the model LR2.0 which matches the number on mine but I have no idea if that means torque, speed or even what RPM. I guess the controller is only 225 amp? Seems puny compared to the ones I've been reading about!:|

I found this quote in another thread, your motor is actually stock size, I bet EMP rewound or rebuilt it at some point.

Yes the stock controller is 225 amp, which is small, but it depends on what you want to do with the cart.

Ok that's good to know. The emp website shows only a 3-4mph increase with the LR 2.0 whatever that is. My plan for the cart is to lift and run 22-23" all terrains, add a rear seat/bed, and use it around the home place for feeding horses and just cruising around, crossing mud puddles sometimes. Also at my hunting lease for night time hog hunting, which includes some hills but mostly good roads and trails. I'd also like to have as much range as possible. I only have a generator for charging at the camp. If 22" tires are too big to do well I guess I could try 20"...
Any suggestions on a good controller or upgrades in general?
Btw, I still don't know if the PO did anything to the gears, but it has good torque with the 18" tires

Re: Just got my first cart! '96 48v series, what do I have

I took the cart out on flat level road today with a full charge and it hit 17mph, averaged around 16.5 though. I called EMP today and they emailed me some info on the motor too. This is the note on it:

-LR2.0
This design provides a modest top speed improvement of approximately 20%. One of the greatest features of this design is the retention of torque at low speeds. In most cases, the standard controller can be used. This motor produces very nearly the same torque as the unmodified motor.

It's only 3.3hp. :/
They also mentioned that they'd recommend a 400a controller on it.
