"smoking gas engine"

Just freshened 341 c.c. club car flat head engine. New rings with .006 end gap. Cyclinder and piston within clearance tolerances after cyclinder hone. Used after market rings. Exhaust valve stem a little loose, intake good. Pumping alot of oil and smoking bad. Disassembled again thinking may have a broken ring. Everything was as assembled. This engine has a splash oiling system and valves in the block. Can the new rings suck oil up through the intake valve. Going to install new club car rings and both valves however I do not want to have to take it apart again. any suggestions???

Have you done a compression test? you also didn't say if it was burning oil or not. New rings will take a bit to seat.

Sounds like that might be your problem; oil seeping down the the valve stem will be burnt in the combustion chamber.

Chris.
