Three "bigger" 12v batteries or six 6v batteries
I have a 36v TXT that needs batteries. Average neighborhood cruiser so nothing crazy needed for runtime. Was debating doing 3 bigger 12v batts or the standard 6v batteries. Obviously the runtime will be better with the larger 6v batt bank. Any other downsides?

12 will yield lower run time and shorter useful life. Other than that I see no downside

If run time isn't an issue, go with 3 12v. Your cart will be "about" 200lb lighter, and your wallet will be "about" $400 heavier. Save weight and money!!!!

I have a small neighborhood and several neighbors have had luck with 3 12 volt batteries, but we are talking small. they know the batteries won't last as long or go as long, but they are happy with what they have. Just depends on how far you will be going on a normal charge.

You will need to make a new hold down system, If not then they might twist, turn, rattle around and damage the plates

While you are on the subject. Entry level 6v batteries are usually +/- $90 each, with limited warranties and service life. Puts you at about $540 without a core charge. W****** has a line of "entry level" batteries called Value Power that are roughly $50 a piece for any size car 12v battery. 6 batteries = $300 without cores. I always wondered the downside of running 2 banks of 3 batteries each for 36v. OK - it would take 2 chargers, or taking turns with one. Pretty easy to fab some battery cables. So, how bad would a carts run time suffer with 6 - 550cca 12v batteries?

If you can make them fit, please spend the $300 plus cores and modifications and report back. It would be interesting to see a full documentation of your waste of time and money. |
