3 link coilover rear suspension 07 precedent
 

I'm not new to carts or suspension. But I am wanting to convert my Precedent over from leaf springs to coil over's with a 3 link setup. Has anyone attempted this? I'm looking for improved ride, suspension travel and articulation. I currently have an Allsports long travel 6" lift which is awesome once you modify the steering arms so the thing will turn around in less than a city block! The kit also rides great on the front, the rear on the other hand is horrible. Not to mention I'm on my 3rd set of stock rear springs because they bend. As far as spring rates and dampening curves go that I can sort out with a little help from engineers at work. Any pointers pics or advice would be great!!! P.S. if I get it working well I plan on selling a few to my buddies who ride with me (not for profit). Who knows where that could lead.

Ok does everyone at least agree Precedents ride like crap? Or has my DS days got the better of me? All I know is the Precedent will and has climbed any hill I've put it up against and I don't plan on going back to a DS. So I'm determined to fix its major flaw.

Sorry... but, Precedents "seem" to ride better then my DS, yet, I only have experience of two of them!
If I could... or better... would... run a 3 link on my DS, I might be happy! (then again... are we ever happy?)

I have no idea how you (or I) can run a 3 link suspension on a Club Car,
But, I'm definitely open for ideas from others!

Well thanks for saying something. Clearly this one of those subjects which everyone is like "ehh I don't know". As far as Precedent vs. DS I will have to politely disagree. To me a DS rides 10 times better. At least at the rear end anyway. Front I'll call equal in stock form. FYI I'm gonna proceed with my project soon as fall hits. I will not come back next spring with a cart that rides anything like I currently have. We use are carts soley off road so top speed is irelevant to us somewhat (mine runs 30). Seems like most people who use the site are obsessed with top speed... I'll continue to post with progress. I really need to get on my computer so I can post some pics of my ride. Currently just using an iPad.

I have seen a few nice 3 link rear suspensions here on the forum. If I'm not mistaken, the frames on those carts are made from aluminum. This means you (or someone else) would have to weld some aluminum tabs to the frame for attachment points for the links, or fabricate bolt-on link mounts. It is possible to do, but not as easy as if one were to start with a steel frame cart. Good luck and if you try this share pictures with the rest of us!

Thanks. I've been searching haven't found anything yet. Welding and fabrication won't be an issue. Just don't want to do it two or three times.

Search the net for 4x4 3 and 4 link rear suspension designs. Copy what these guys do. Scale it down in size and duty to fit the cart's weight and hp.
That's what I did for my Gas Ezgo. It came out very nice. Your biggest challenge may be finding the coil over shocks or whatever you are going to use to suspend the cart with.

I have an 08 EZGO and I plan on changing the rear suspension as well and I did just what Scottyb suggested and found a lot of great pics. Now it is time to start taking measurements and put a plan together. I am looking at going with a system that does not need a pan hard rod such as a triangulated 4 link

BTW, not all of us are obsessed with speed :mrgreen:

These guys know off road suspension, I got an education! I'm real happy with what I built. It floats over bad terrain.


My panhard bar was an after thought. It was a design flaw fix. Not a bad one either, I could have gone back to square one or installed the bar..... my choice was the bar. If I built another one it would be a true 3 link. On the up side I may have gotten more articulation out of the set up the way it is (drag links rotate at both ends) .... I have a true 10 inches of suspension at each corner
